Things to Know When You've Had an Accident
In the time of a misfortune such as an accident there are many things that go through a persons head. How much are the repairs on my car going to be? How much will I be responsible for paying? Is my frame bent? Will my car ever be right again? Do I have to go to an insurance recommended shop? Do I have rental coverage? Do I have coverage for my loss? As the President of Bay Custom Auto I would like to let you know your options. My staff and I would be happy to assist you in this confusing time in helping you obtain an estimate, giving you our opinions and knowledge from both working for repair shops and working for insurance companies. It is important to choose a repair facility based on you, the consumer, being comfortable. Weather it is an insurance referral, and suggestion from a friend, or the dealership that you bought your vehicle from, I encourage you to ask as many questions as you need to in order to understand the repair process.
My staff and I are dedicated in helping you get your car repaired properly and in a timely fashion. Be cautious of shops that may promise you quickness rather that quality. Be sure to ask a lot of questions, compare estimates, but be sure that you are comparing apples to apples. A mentor of mine once read me a quote saying, "The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of a low price." This doesn’t mean choose the most or least expensive, it simply means understand the meaning of the price. Know what is included and what kind of quality to expect. Understand the differences in estimates and costs and feel comfortable with your selection.
Bay Custom Auto’s reputation has been built on integrity and quality. Ron George, the original founder of Bay Custom Auto, built a tradition of quality workmanship with excellent customer service. I am proud to continue that practice and am fully committed to growing and improving the company year after year. We survey 75% of our customers by an outside company and have been very please with the results.
We are committed to improving, and are always open to suggestions. If at any time during the repair process, or just need an opinion, please feel free to contact me and I will do everything thing I can to help any situation. I hope that in viewing our website you pick up some pointers on things that may help you make a wise decision in choosing a repair facility. And I hope that you choose Bay Custom Auto.
As the owner of Bay Custom Auto I would like to make you aware
of some things that you may or may not be aware of if you have been
in a collision. Our staff is here to answer any questions that you may
have and even assist you with your claim. Here are some tips if you have been in a wreck. Please feel free to ask us any questions to help you with your insurance claim.
The most important advice is that YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE WHERE YOU HAVE YOUR CAR REPAIRED.
Estimates
We can provide you with a written estimate at any time.
Some insurance companies choose to do there own. If you have an
estimate from the insurance company please provide us with a copy.
That way if any additional damage is found then we can contact that
company to collect for any further damages. The state of Virginia does
only require you to get one estimate for your repairs, if the insurance
company does ask for more than one, you are not required to but
we can recommend another shop to get you one if it will speed up
the process.
Rental Coverage
If your policy covers a rental car while your car
is being repaired, or the insurance company that is paying for the repairs
is providing you with a rental car the following info is important. If your policy is covering the rental costs then be aware of any rental caps that you may have, most policies only cover up to $500 or $600 worth of coverage. It is important to only rent a size car that you may need as this will lower the daily costs and provide more days of coverage in case you have a larger repair that may come close to your rental max.
Warranties
Bay Custom Auto provides a lifetime warranty on the
workmanship that is completed on your car. This warranty is only
for the lifetime that you own the vehicle and is non-transferable.
You may also qualify for a 5 year warranty backed by DuPont on
the paint work completed on your car.
Parts
It is important that you know the differences of the type of
parts that are being put on your car. The three types of parts are as
follows.
- OEM: a part that is made for your vehicle by the manufacturer
- Aftermarket: a part that is made for your car by a company other than the manufacturer.
- Used or LKQ (like, kind, and quality): as used part off of a salvage vehicle.
We will put any type of part on your vehicle that you prefer but some
insurance companies may require a part other than an OEM part. They
should also warranty the part as they do an OEM. Be sure to ask the type of part being put on your vehicle.
Supplements
While it is sometimes impossible to get an estimate
Perfect, we strive to get all of the damage written up the first time.
However from time to time there is damage that is unforeseen. We
will be happy to notify the insurance company of this damage for you
and also advise you of the unforeseen damage. It is important to know
that this could cause delays in the repairs.
If at any time during the repair process you feel uncomfortable or have
questions about you repairs or your claim please feel free to ask anyone
on our staff to help you. If for some reason you are not happy with
our service or have a concern then please feel free to contact me anytime.
You may be surveyed by a third party on the experience that you had with us. It is important to me that we do the best we possibly can so that these surveys reflect the way we want to do business. Your business is important to us and we want you to have the best experience possible.
Sincerely,
Robert Whelan
